3D Borromean rings
3 Dimensions refers to objects that are constructed on three plans (X, Y and Z). The process of creating 3D graphics can be divided into three basic phases: 3D modeling, 3D animation and 3D rendering. A 3D model is usually originated on the computer by engineer using some kind of 3d modeling tools.
Modeling
- 3D modeling – photo realistic image of whatever plan the designer has in mind as they need to see it virtually. Saves hours just to explain a model through 2D drawing and plans
- OpenSCAD – software for creating solid 3D CAD models, reads in a script file that describes the object and renders the 3D model from this script file.
- TinkerCAD
- Google SketchUp
- 123D Design
- Pepakura Designer is a Windows application which makes unfolded patterns from 3D data. Pepakura Designer features to automatically unfold 3D polygon-mesh models, and allow you to edit them. Pepakura Designer allows you to create real paper craft models from digital data!
- 3D rendering – realistic images
- visualization – view the images from different angles, giving viewers a virtually realistic experience.
Computer-Aided
- Design CAD
- CNC
- Borromean Rings – consist of three rings with the property that no two of the rings are linked, even though all three rings together cannot come apart.
- Knot Atlas – names, descriptions and pictures
- Knots – demonstration
- Crossing – includes information about 3D print of the knot and settings, as well as links to additional information
